Charter Network Series: In The Loop

Policies In Practice (3rd Tuesdays)

October’s In The Loop, with Mark Weinberg and Vashaunta Harris of the National Charter Schools Institute, will cover student’s cell phone usage during the school day. Designed for school leaders, board members, and authorizers, each episode delivers practical guidance to navigate the complexities of the charter school ecosystem.

Episode 2 – Cell Phone Use by Students

Procedure: Students are required to turn off and store cell phones in designated areas (e.g., lockers or backpacks) during school hours. Teachers will enforce this policy, and any violations will result in confiscation of the device until the end of the day. Repeated offenses may lead to parental meetings and further disciplinary actions.

Policy: Define rules for student cell phone usage during school hours to minimize distractions and maintain a focused learning environment.
