October’s In The Loop, with Mark Weinberg and Vashaunta Harris of the National Charter Schools Institute, will cover school policy on immunization. Designed for school leaders, board members, and authorizers, each episode delivers practical guidance to navigate the complexities of the charter school ecosystem.
Episode 4 – Immunization
- Policy: Require that all students meet state-mandated immunization requirements for school attendance, with exceptions allowed only for valid medical reasons.
- Procedure: Parents must submit up-to-date immunization records before the start of the school year. The school nurse will review records and notify parents of any missing vaccinations. Students who are not in compliance will be excluded from school until records are provided or a valid medical exemption is submitted.
