Plan to Win. Bring your who to your what.
(Man in the mirror is the who. Plan to Win is the what.)
Who you are is answered by what you believe in. What do you believe in? Who are you?
Question: If we don’t understand who we are, how do we know who to align ourselves with in relationship? Who do we let in? Who is helpful and will reciprocate the kind of relationship that we want or need? This short book is an overview of what we believe you should seriously consider doing in order to take charge of your life, to get to know who you really are and how to move to where you want to go in life.
There is an ideal plan for your life that has always been present, just waiting for you to embrace. This plan is not necessarily based on what anyone else wants for you, or what your friends, school, coworkers or society say you need to be. It is based on a plan that comes from your core essence, one that you pen with your own hand.
It really begins with knowing who you are and what you have set in motion. I once heard the quote by Charlie ‘Tremendous’ Jones, “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” I laughed… is it so…?? And then I stopped and thought, “Well, if not that, then what and who really does influence me? Am I who I want to be? And, WHO AM I?” In order to answer those questions, I needed to know how to qualify and quantify who I really was.
Living in today’s world doesn’t make that any too easy. Today’s world is filled to the brim with hurry. “Efficient”, “time-saving” and “automated” are words we hear over and over again. On top of the hectic pace, Americans are working longer hours than we were a decade ago and we are reporting that our stress levels are tipping the charts. So many of us feel disconnected and like something is missing. None of us believe that moving quickly and mindlessly through our days is a productive endeavor. Yet, demands from every direction are high and many of us are expected to do more with less. All this makes it very difficult to have time to really be in touch with our likes, needs, wants, desires, preferences, dreams and on and on. On top of that, we have little time to devote to our creative endeavors or hobbies. Wait, you don’t have time for any hobbies?
Trying to know yourself can feel like the saying, “You can’t see the forest for the trees”. In fact, you may be so deep in the forest you can’t see enough of the trees either. When we lose sight of who our authentic self, we are unable to access our true power. We may very likely be unable to find our path, let alone walk it. Or, on the other hand, are you perhaps soaring-high, but despite the fact that things are going well with no complaints, you find yourself feeling like something is missing, that you want more?
Each of us is a multi-dimensional being – composed of blood, guts & soul. And each of us will experience at times the loss of health, the impact of strong emotional experiences and times of questioning who we are, what our legacy will be, and perhaps what will be said at our funeral. Are there some things we need to address to change that outcome? Well, this starts with getting to know yourself, a tough job to be sure, but one that is well worth it. Your life is just beginning, whether young or old. As Zig Ziglar said, “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
The bottom line is that if you want to live true to yourself, the only true road to happiness and success, you have to get to know that friend looking back at you in the mirror. What friend, you may ask?? Why, YOU! YOU need to know YOU!
Take a moment and ponder these thoughts…
How many mirrors do you have? By that, we mean, do you have a different mirror when you are home, a different one for work, and then a third and yet different mirror when you are out with friends when nobody from those other lives are around?
When you bring things down to one mirror, when you act from a place of authenticity no matter what your circumstances, you will find that living with yourself comes with ease. The complications that stem from having multiple mirrors/identities make it impossible to do so. Each of us needs to bring our life down to a single mirror. One solid identity. If you are already there, and want a plan to win moving forward– you are on the right path. Keep reading. If not, this is the first step to accomplish in order to create and execute your Plan to Win. We don’t promise that this is going to be easy, but we can assure you that by working this process you will have the opportunity to know yourself truly, to define what makes you tick, and to pursue what you are passionate about. This journey is going to define the terms by which you live and help you reach the mountaintop you declare as yours.
