Giving students a chance to be heard!
The Institute has a rich history in our home state's charter public schools sector. Because of this, we are so proud of the thousands of students who annually attend charter schools throughout Michigan, and of the thousands of parents, teachers, school leaders, and charter school board members who are hard at work each day to help kids succeed. To celebrate National Charter Schools Week each year and to encourage charter school students to show pride in their schools and show the positive, transformative impact charter schools are having on children every day, we are proud to annually sponsor a statewide essay contest. We started the Essay Contest in 2016 and have since received an overwhelming response -- hearts and minds are inspired and students are dreaming big dreams!
2019 Michigan Charter Schools Essay Contest
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
We all play an important role in our communities. By getting involved and helping others around us, we not only help make our community stronger but we also better ourselves. We learn to work as a team, see a bigger picture of the world, and give hope and inspiration to others. Great leaders build up those around them.
To celebrate National School Choice Week (January 20-26) and how Michigan’s charter schools are getting kids ready for the future, the National Charter Schools Institute is proud to sponsor the 2019 Michigan Charter Schools Essay Contest.
This year we want to hear the inspirational stories of how charter school students all over Michigan are impacting their communities and the people around them. Whether volunteering at a local event or helping a neighbor bring in groceries—we know, even the smallest actions can have the biggest impact in the lives of others.
This year’s theme: “How I’m impacting my community”
This contest is open to Michigan charter school students in 6th to 12th grade. The top prize in each division is $100. Winners will receive special recognition during National Charter Schools Week in May.
At the Institute, we work hard every day to make sure Michigan’s charter schools have the right support to get results for kids. There’s nothing more inspiring than hearing our students’ stories directly from them. We want to inspire them to achieve more than they thought possible. That’s why we’re proud to sponsor this competition.
Submissions must be received or postmarked by Friday, March 29th.
