2017 Midwest Charter Schools Art Contest

A superhero. An astronaut. A pilot.
UP, up, and away! If you could go “Up, Up, and Away!” where would you go and what would you do? Who would you visit? What would you do once you got there? How would you get there—plane, balloon, spaceship, jet-pack, special wings, or some other way?

We want to know what you would do if you could go “Up, Up, and Away!” Look to the sky and tell us your destination! Make us a picture of yourself going “Up, Up, and Away!” and send it to us for a chance to win $250. We want to see your dreams, so dream big!

The contest is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin charter schools. Use crayons, pencils, paint, chalk — whatever material you want — to show us where you see yourself in the future. Use bright, bold colors, and be creative. You are unique, and your picture should be too.

Entries are being accepted until October 30 and winners will be announced the week of December 11.

Prizes will be awarded for the first, second, and third place winners. A special prize will also be given to the whole classroom with the most and best entries.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place winners.

First Prize: $250 and a trophy

Second Prize: $125 and a certificate of recognition.

Third Prize: $50 and a certificate of recognition.

Honorable mentions: Certificates of recognition.

Classroom prize: It’s a surprise!

Contest Rules

Medium and dimensions: Students are encouraged to express their creativity, and may submit pictures made in crayon, pencil, paint, chalk, or any other medium that they choose. Pictures must be at least 8.5” by 11”, but may be larger. Electronic submissions must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

Who Can Enter: The Institute’s Art Contest is open to all K-5th grade students in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin charter schools. Only one entry per student, please.

How to Enter: K-5th grade students interested in entering the contest must submit their picture to the Institute:

By email at:
artcontest@charterinstitute.org (a minimum resolution of 300 dpi)

By mail at:
National Charter Schools Institute
2017 Art Contest
711 W. Pickard St., Suite M
Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858

All submissions must include: the student’s name, the student’s grade, the teacher’s name, the school’s name, and either a telephone number or email address to contact the winners. Only one entry per student, please.

Entering the contest grants the Institute permission to publish the picture in whole or in part, and use winners’ names and photographs to publicize winning entries. Due to the anticipated volume of submissions, the Institute will not be able to return all artwork, but will work to accommodate individual, special requests.

The deadline for submission is Monday, October 30. Winning entries will be announced the week of December 11.

Judging Criteria: Entries will be reviewed by a panel of qualified judges. Winners will be selected based on the originality of their artwork (be creative and compelling); how clearly the theme is expressed; and overall artistic ability.

For Questions: Contact Don at the Institute at (989) 317-3510 or artcontest@charterinstitute.org
